Bathroom Sink Trends: From Pedestals to Basins

Bathroom sinks are functional basins that work with the existing plumbing to provide water and drainage. But for the average person, a bathroom sink has a lot more uses — and they’re used every day. What was once just a sterile white bowl set into a countertop has become a decorative statement in overall bathroom design. Don’t settle for an outdated look. Consider the following trends for your bathroom sink.

Undermount Sink

Most commonly associated with kitchens, undermount sinks have become popular for bathrooms, too. This design feature allows the countertops and the fixtures to be the focal point without drawing any attention to the sink.

Vessel Sink

For something more dramatic, consider a vessel sink. These basins sit above the counter, creating a decorative look with a bowl to catch the water. These vessels come in all styles and add flash to your design.

Pedestal Sink

If you’re looking for a more traditional look, the pedestal sink is still popular. Keep in mind that pedestal sinks do not provide any storage, so you’ll need a separate cabinet for the things you want at your fingertips. A pedestal sink creates clean lines and has a small footprint, which is perfect for some bathrooms.

Console Sink

A console sink is built almost like furniture. It is typically an open structure with decorative elements between the sink and countertop connecting it to the floor or a base. They’re common in luxury settings, such as hotels, and can add a rich look to your design.

Wall-Mounted Sink

Similarly, a wall-mounted sink offers the function of a pedestal but a freestanding look. They blend well with retro or mid-century designs and are ideal if you want to eliminate the appearance of clutter in your bathroom.

Vanity Sink

The most common type of sink is the vanity. Regardless of the basin or fixtures, a vanity sink is anything with enclosed cabinets and drawers that provide you with plenty of storage in the bathroom. Just because it’s functional doesn’t mean it can’t also be stylish. There are plenty of creative designs to choose from.
