S .C. MAN GETS THREE YEARS IN TAX CASE

A South Carolina man was sentenced to more than three years in prison for tax evasion.

Bryan S. Bower, 51, of Lake Wylie, South Carolina, is a former executive of Buckeye Fire Equipment in Kings Mountain, North Carolina. From 2010 to 2013, Bower diverted more than $25 million in customer payments directly into his personal bank accounts, according to court records. He then failed to claim the income on his annual tax returns, resulting in a failure to pay more than $9 million in income taxes.

Bower pleaded guilty to tax evasion and was sentenced to 41 months in prison.

“Today’s sentencing is a reminder that there are detrimental consequences for this type of criminal behavior,” IRS Special Agent-in-Charge Matthew D. Line said in a prepared statement.
